Hijet Fuel Filler Leaking?

Forum:

Hi.

Our Hijet has a fuel leak in the filler.
It seems that fuel can get back up the flexy pipe from the tank and past the metal flap in the filler. It the goes down between the filler pipe and the filer housing.

Is there meant to be an "O" ring or similar in the housing that the metal flap closes against?

Any ideas please...

leak

hi,

i had the same problem with my hijet. after dismantling the whole thing when the tank was near empty i found that there was little i could do. the main thing with mine was that the metal flap was getting stuck in the pipe part open. this meant the fuel just poured out. my solution was to:

1. free off the flap by slightly filing it down and making sure the flap is fully closed after every fill.

2. not fill the tank all the way to the top. (the problem is caused by the fact that the tank is at nearly the same height as the filler cap)

3. replace the rubber seal inside the cap which stops any fuel from pouring down the side of the car.

following these steps i've had no problems since.

hope this helps.

if you find a better solution let me know

Fuel Filller fixed.

After removing the whole metal fuel pipe, we found that the gap we thought went into the vehicle actually went back into the pipe. The bit with the metal flap in is INSIDE the main pipe.
So, any leak must be past the filler cap we thought. Looking at the rubber washer on the cap it was obvious that it was a bit thin, age worn.
So, we removed the washer, and fitted two spacer washers. The cap now fitted fine, but the locking tab wouldn't engage.
We removed one washer, the locking tab now engages, and no more leaking fuel!

Thanks for your reply.
