cost of a belt is about £13.00, cost of an engine if the belt snaps a little bit more than £13.00

Yes they are great motors and I have owned the same 1991 ELi since 1994 and it has been no problem in 100K Miles and has cost very little. I also have a 1996 Anjou, again no problems to date. Both the cheapest cars I have ever owned for maintenace.
The auto hubs allow the front diff to engage without the lneed to get out and lock the Manual front hubs. To disengage reverse in a stright line for about three to four car lengths. Be aware thet these to seize more frequently than the manuasl type so it is worth testing them every few weeks.
You should have a notice on the drivers door explaining the use of the transfer box. You have 2H which you should use for normal driving. 4H is for non difficult off raoding and 4L is for sticky real off roading. You should stop the car before changing the ratio from any of it's positions. H + high ratio L = Low ratio. Don't forget to disengage once you are back on the tar mac or you will wind the diff up when turning slowly. For snow use 4H and 4L depending on the severity and gradiant.
Have fun

PS Unless you have proof of the CAM belt being changed in the last 60K miles or 6 years, get it changed!!! along with the alternator and power steering belts.
