My YRV turbo is leaking! Not another problem!

Forum:

Hi All,

Just been out for a quick drive and came back and reversed into the drive way. When I got out of the car, notice the road had what looked like oil patches Sad . Then looked at the drive way and I could see small spots of what again look like oil patches leading back to the front off side of the car. The only reason I spotted them, is beacuse the roads are wet and so is the driveway. Shok

I have had a look everywhere, inide the engine bay it's spotless. Checked the oil on the dipstick and it's still full. Checked underneath the car, and cannot see anything obvious. Scratch one-s head

Question is, is it oil or is it petrol? If it was petrol would this evaporate? Have noticed that the petrol gauge if off full with only doing shy of 25 miles from a fullt tank. But again this is nothing new with the fuel issues I have had from day 1.

Any ideas? Help

Jon.

COuld do with help here guys.

Hi Jon,
you seem to be having all this trouble with what should be a very reliable car, hope you've not bought a bad one!
Have you had a smell at the oily stuff?
If its coming from the drivers side the oil filter is situated to that side.
The air con leaks off condensed water from time to time which is normalbut should not be oily?
Have a good look at the brake calliper, especialy the bleed nipple and hose on the suspect side, brake fluid would look clear where as motor oil would unless just recently new, would be the obvious black colour. Check the back end too just incase you reversed back leaving the trail to look like the fronts to blame.
If you give the autobox a good hard thrashing it might leak or spew a bit out of the dipstick - the box has a small dipstick on it if you had not noticed, but this is more to the nearside.
Otherwise its Scratch one-s head

Regards,
Dave.

Dave,

Thanks for the advice.

I think it is the front. As I moved the car eleswhere on the driveway and when I backed up there were a couple of spots to the front.

Out of a matter of interest, where is the fuel pump located? As I have a snealy suspicion it is petrol. Everytime I drive off and park up somewhere the needle is showing a particular point. I.e say 3/4 full. When I come back to start it up again after 8 hours, the needle can show below 3/4 tank.

Jon,
the fuel pump is in the fuel tank.
Check the fuel lines underneath, you might have been hit with something. You should be able to distinguish between fuel and oils with a sniff or :p, better a sniff!!
I've often thought the fuel guage is not that accurate.
The dealership told me my car had had 2 fuel sender units amongst other things, all done under warranty before i got it.
Be careful if it is leaking fuel, especialy in the engine bay, it could easily ignite with the heat. Cray 2
Just listed a YRV manual CD on Ebay along with a few other items , genuine official club version too!!
Cheers,
Dave.

Thanks Dave.........

Dave,

Been driving the car now for a couple of days. Although when I get to park up in the works car park, I cannot see any noticable leaks, and the petrol gauge is currently reading 3/4 tank with close to 60miles driven this week. This is strange. Scratch one-s head

Will keep my eyes peeled. And will have a sniff and not a lick of the substance that may trail off my car. Biggrin

Still enjoying the car even though I'm experiencing these problems.
