Forum:
My 1993 Fourtrak has oil pouring out when up to running temp. This only started recently and the oil inside is still a nice oily colour which suggests head gasket is OK. It still runs fine, but will consume a lot of oil if I continue to drive it. Anyone had anything similar, any ideas what it could be? I have booked it in to be looked at, but I'm worried it will be expensive.
Info too vague.
Depends where the oil is running out!
First thing id say, is if
First thing id say, is if its loosing that much oil stop driving it until you know where the leak is coming from!! Whatever it is, it will probably be cheaper than a new engine should you run out of oil! Does it not leak say overnight? Take the sumpguard off and have a look to see if its coming from the sump or the oil filter? Place some cardboard underneath, get it to running temp and see if any drips down onto the c'board, and then hopefully you can locate where its from.

Not well oiled
Use a degreaser on the engine and jet wash it completely until it is thoroughly clean, remove as much of the protection as possible, and the air induction pipes where possible,
Use a halogen light and start the engine and let it warm up, find out where the oil is leaking from first, usual culprits are:
Oil filter not correctly tightened, or working loose.
Turbocharger gasket, oil feed pipes.
Head gasket gone across one axis allowing oil to leak to the outside of the cylinder block, but not leaking water into the engine.
Rocker cover gasket at the rear end of the rocker cover.
Sump gasket.
Oil drain plug.
To see some of these places will require the use of a good mirror, particularly at the rear of the engine.
