Driving home in the thick freezing fog that enveloped Norfolk, UK, last night I came up with another use for the load leveler.
I don't have any fog lights, so the usual problem arose with dip beam throwing so much light forward that it just bounced back from the fog bank ahead. The glare from the fog outshines any detail you might pick up from the objects you can actually see. As for using main beam HA HA, forget it !
Well, if you wind the load leveler down to its lowest setting, you get a puddle of light directly in front of the vehicle with less light thrown forward, and therefore less light bouncing back off the fog bank. Hey presto, less stressful driving. If the visibility increases, you can wind up the headlight aim with the leveler, as required.
