Wheel wobble

Forum:

I recently had very bad vibrations while drivin my 97 fourtrak at around 30-40mph then this was solved my the propshaft, however my problem today is that there was a wobble in the steering i did have this be4 the vibration problem but it wasnt that bad, now after there propshaft was replaced the truck felt like new! no vibrations or steering wobble however once again the steering wobble is worse than ever only goes when i accelerate up to 60mph an ideas???
but hey at least theres no vibarations right!!

Check ......

Balance the wheels and inflate to correct pressure.
Check all steering linkages and ball joints for wear.
Check security of suspension arms and function/security of shock absorbers at front and rear.
Check condition of engine mountings.

Balance weight fallen off ?

These have been known to come adrift. Look for a clean patch where something has recently 'gone missing'.

Some purists make a note of what balance weights are where, just after the wheels have been balanced. This way they can replace one if it should fall off.

The other thing is if you have done something evil and taken a chunk out of the tread or bulged the tyre by bashing a kerb hard can mean vital bits of the rubber or internal tyre structure are missing. In this case it's only a matter of time before the whole tyre lets go.

does anybody have an idea as

does anybody have an idea as to what psi thier front tyres are?
also have looked for anything thats fallen off and general tyre discrepancies and found nothing.

my tyres are 22psi all

my tyres are 22psi all round, then again its mainly off road with me, even so it still runs on road no problems and no shake untill around 80mph-ooo soz officer i mean 70 Wink

Under Pressure

Front tyres are 22-26psi depending upon load and size.

Good Vibrations

Most things covered in the other posts, however, if these do not cure the problem, look at the steering column universal joints and steering column bushes.

Look under the bonnet and find the joints, get an assistant to wobble the steering wheel from side to side gently, while you look for signs of play, check their bolts for tightness also, it is not unknown for these to come loose, particularly on vehicles which work hard.

Check the steering column bushes by holding the steering wheel at 12 and 6o clock, lift it to feel any movement, repeat this by holding the steering wheel at 3 and 9 o clock and repeat.
