sportrak clutch problem

Forum:

My K reg 93 sportrax has an unusual clutch problem, the other week the clutch pedal went slack and i thought the cable had broke, after a few attempts all seemed ok and i was able to drive, another cable was purchased and fitted just to eliminate it and all seemed ok but after a few days of trouble free driving i was unable to get it in to gear as the clutch would not disengage, being away from home i started the car in gear and drove off only to find that with in 100mts all was ok again and has been for a few days now.Question is has anyone any ideas and if i have to fit a new clutch assembly is there an easy way, engine out or gearbox off, any advice would be a great help, thanks

Cable

Sounds more like a snagged cable. Check the cable and outer cable, from peddle to clutch. Oil the cable. Also check security of the mounts that hold the cable and also check the security of the gear box.
If that fails to sort anything then it sounds like a release plate problem ... clutch out etc.

Make sure the cable is not tightly bent along it's length, it shoul be a smooth curve and secured with the clips as before. Get someone to ensure from beneath that as the pedal is pused down the cable is operating the arm. If it isn'rt then the thrust bering is not being moved onto the pressure plate to dissengage/engage the clutch

It sounds as if you have a thrust bearing or pressure plate problem which will mean dropping the gearbox I'm afraid.
