Forum:
As I wrote in the general section in my introduction, I recently (last week) purchased a F75 Rocky which has some problems, the major being a rather nasty oil leak coming from behind the engine, directly below the console - any thoughts?
I have the car in the mechanic now - though he cautioned me that the repair might cost more than what I paid for the car - he'll call me tomorrow with more news... Ouch...
Electrically the vehicle has some problems too - curiously enough it didn't show any when I was driving it home, but anyway - the turn signals stopped working when I was doing a roundabout and the lights controller isn't working all too well: there's a third party switch drilled near the rear wiper blade button which activates the "minimum's" light (sorry don't know the correct term - these are the 1st lights that come on when you turn the selector one step). The other lights come on well enough (and by well enough I mean that when I select them then eventually come on after a couple seconds of delay) - this behavior is distinct of my other Rocky - where the selector works fine. The pass light works if you pull the selector hard enough but the "maximum's" don't fix if I push the selector forward. Wiper blades and front jets work fine at any speed (pheww...). The air isn't working - and if I select the higher speed (3 I believe) I can hear a clunking noise coming from within the console. Also, somewhere down the line, someone has stripped the passenger heater from underneath the passenger seat..
Thanks to this 2nd Rocky I found that the middle position on the damper selection button is actually illuminated - I am not sure if the dampers are working on both vehicles - any way of checking this?
The voltmeter isn't illuminated but it's showing voltage fine - inclinometer is both working fine and illuminated, the clock comes one at 1:00 every time I start the engine - why doesn't it fix time once the engine is turned off?
Many thanks in advance for any help or insight!
The headlight/indicator
The headlight/indicator switch problem should be an easy fix. Remove the steering column covers, and spray the switch contacts liberally with something like WD40 or CRC. It will be dust/crap in the contacts. The gauge issue will be a blown bulb, and possibly a short for the clock. Get a small flat screwdriver, and prise the small 3 holed panel from the dashboard (top and bottom, about 1 1/2 inches from each end- it should pop off) then pull out each gauge (same screw driver, this time each side of each gauge) Check the wiring behind there, and replace the blown voltmeter bulb. Everything then snaps back into place.
Cheers

I'll do what you suggest then report back - it'll take a week or so since the F75 is waiting repair (no word from the oil leak yet).
It was the gearbox alright!
It was the gearbox alright! I had it opened up and seal changed (I don't recall whichever it was). As I supposed the seal was about 3 EUR replacement - but with 4 new absorbers fitted (the others were simply blown...) and work hours added, the total went to nearly 500 EUR - ouch...
Electrically it is running fine too (at least as fine as it'll ever be) - I just need to find a replacement blower resistor, otherwise I only get either off or maximum air output - also I had nearly all the bulbs in the panel changed - those who weren't blown were blackened... The digital clock isn't working - the electrician who checked it said nothing can be done about it - for some weird reason it doesn't keep time while the vehicle is stopped. I have a replacement coming in. The light controller is fine now since I got a 2nd hand replacement fitted in. Pass lights, etc are working well enough.
Now I need to repair the fuel tank - at current diesel prices it hurts to see it dripping like a river even when you are feeding some from the pump... I have read all the insight you left on the matter and I believe it is an easy enough matter - I just hope it is cheap too...
