Dear All,
Putting my hijet called 'little blue' in tommorow for its MOT so fingers crossed on that one; we've had her nearly a year and whilst the family and I love her to bits, she has been a bit problematical to this non mechanically minded driver. I have just shelled out for a new starter motor, and it would appear that the ignition needs replacing now as it doesn't always seem to make a connection, which makes it difficult if you don't have the confidence it will start every time - thank God there not too heavy to push start!
As for looking for a replacement iginition unit, are there any comparable competitor models which would do the job as Diahatsu's are, as ever, thin on the ground in the Northewst....

Ign Switch
I had an old Citroen AMI with the same problem and I by passed the final part of the switch to a separate dash "flick" switch like modern flash cars. The key turned the ignition on but the switch then connected to the starter. I used a flick switch with auto return to avoid burning out the starter. It still work to this day and was quite admired by the new owners who had always wanted that type of starter. Some people are easily please/impressed, the car was a heap
