Move Plus erratic tickover

Forum:

Hi, I'm new to this forum, and am struggling to find much info about my '98 Move Plus auto (my wife's car, actually). Thought it might be helpful to others to let you know how I cured its erratic tickover - it had an occasional tendency to stall, now fixed by cleaning the throttle body with carburettor/fuel injection cleaner and wiping it out with a rag. Took 10 minutes!

Any tips/hints/pointers to a workshop manual from other Move owners would be most welcome; thanks.

Move + manual

Did you find a workshop manual for the Move + Unknw I'm trying to find one too.
Cheers

No sorry, I've had no luck

No sorry, I've had no luck at all. Shall we post again here if either of us finds one?

erratic tickover

my grand move auto 99 has just started doing the same.
stalling for no reason mainly on an incline I shall take up your tipand see if it works.

Stalling

Mine Grand Move + manual stalls at junctions in hot weather so it is not usually a problem except for this last week when I'd forgotten it did it. Take your foot off the accelerator and onto the brake at a roundabout and it stalls. It always starts again but can be a bit scary.

Return of the tickover problem

The problem didn't go away. However I think I've finally cracked it. I checked all the HT connections, swapped the plugs, cleaned out the idle air control valve (left hand side of the inlet manifold viewed from under the bonnet), WD40d the inside of the distributor cap, and fiddled with the oxygen sensor connection. It now idles at just under 1000 rpm and is dead smooth. I hope it stays that way!

It later transpired that the ignition timing was slightly out. In connection with my other thread regarding pinking, I suspected a malfunctioning knock sensor, but (as far as I could determine) the car doesn't have one! I resorted to undoing the distributor pinch bolt and experimenting with slightly rotating the distributor body. After a fair amount of trial and error I found a position where the car runs smoothly, doesn't stall, and the pinking has vanished. Today my wife passed her driving test in it - first time! - so I call that a result!!
