ok, 96 fieldman lwb, coils and torsion bar suspension, since i have had this one the green 4 wheel drive light has stayed lit on the dash, i have had the wires off and on many times from the box, tonight coming off the beach i thought i would wade up the local river a bit and wash the underside off, so low ratio, forward then reversed her, nothing unusual in that as it gets a fair bit of that when i am going fishing, came out the water, put it in high 2wd and reverse to get the auto hubs off and noticed the light was out !, first thought ah well bulbs blown, however its not, put her back in 4wd and it comes on, off again in 2wd, so what ever it was seems initialy sorted, so the question, is there a sensing switch in the auto hubs ??
Hmmm
Interesting one, not much help I am afraid. I always assumed the sensor for the light on dash was just in the gear lever. Just wanted to say congrats on having a problem fix itself. There will probably be a brand new glitch tmrw. I cant seem to buy a fourtrak that can blow hot air out the body height vents!!

Hi.
It seems none of the Fourtraks blow 'hot' air out of the vents execpt 'screen' and 'floor'.seems to be a design glitch. There have been post on this subject. This troubled me for years till I read some recent posts on the subject. I believe the sensor for the dash light is on the gearbox.

Thank you so much!! Its not me after all! x
Turned On
The switch is located on the front of the transfer case, behind the cover is a diagphram, this is vacuum operated so it could be one of two problems.
The vacuum operated diagphram is contaminated with mud or rust usually, and is not being allowed to fully travel, solution; remove the cover and clean, lightly lubricate and check the operation. This is controlled by two valves mounted on the offside of the gearbox, one pulls it in to 4 wheel drive, the other pulls it out, one could be defective or clogged.
The switch is faulty, usually sticking, remove this and connect a multimeter to the wiring, operate the plunger and see if it makes and breaks correctly, without sticking. Several switches are on the gearbox, these are all the same, swap one and replace the removed switch, operate in 4wheel, and two wheel drive and see if the light works correctly then.
