'92 Fourtrak 2.8 TDX
'Chunky' has past her test again.
I was concerned she would have a problem with the 'smoke test' as last years was high. This year 0.91 l/min ??
last 3 years (limit 3.00 l/min emmisions)
Year 1-: Average reading 1.01 l/min (diesel)
Year 2-: Average reading 2.36 l/min (diesel/veg oil)
Year 3-: Average reading 0.91 l/min (diesel/veg oil)
Mix 50/50 diesel/pure new rapeseed oil. All tests with NEW air filter. trip round the bypass to warm up the engine prior to test, injectors still originals, not been serviced, same garage, same tester.same brand of analyser. ???????

I commented as to my suprise on the low reading,as I was planning to get the injectors replaced. testers reply was that I should leave them alone, unless i really had problems, reasoning that due to the age of the truck and that he had a Fourtrak in of a similar age , where the injectors had siezed into the cylinder head, resulting to the head being taken to a machine shop. Any one ever come across that problem.
He also advised me to run a tank of straight diesel plus injector cleaner yearly prior to the test.

Dodgy Injections
Yes, i have, to remove the injectors when they are seized is relatively easy, run the engine prior to removing them, while the engine is hot quickly remove them. The injectors have what is called a fire shield washer fitted to them, this reacts with the engine heat and ensures a tight seal, it is usually these which cause problems.
Never had problems to the extent where the head has had to be sent to the machine shop.
Certain Cummins industrial engines suffer from the same problem.
