Forum:
hi, after coming back of holliday, straight into the dihatsu, turn it over, it fires, splutters then dies, then carries on turning until bat starts to go.
i have spoke to a few people and my own suspisions, it has air in the system!
how this has happened i have NO idea as when i went away it was fine, when i come back it isnt!
i have only ever bled tractors, and just woundnt know where to star.

many thanks henry.
I think I have the same
I think I have the same vehicle as you.
I think there is a one way valve in the fuel suction line (near the tank) in the rear wing that can sometimes fail.
The hand bleed pump is the 2" domed knob on top of the fuel filter. The bleed screw is a small screw on the outlet pipe (which goes to the injection pump).
I needed to bleed the fuel line after replacing the fuel filter, and I don't think the hand bleed pump was working very well - I gave up pumping it, removed the bleed screw, inserted a narrow bore pipe, and sucked until fuel came out, then on the down stroke of the hand pump, I closed the bleed valve. Started on first crank.
I doubt whether it's much different from bleeding a tractor?

i am quite stupid!
i have recently fitted a new tank.
and didnt bleed it, so i suppose thats where my problem started!
i rely do need to think more!!
so basicly, wait till i got a charged battery, bleed the filter (with hand pump and small bolt with holes in it) then just floor it and go?????

no different
no different to a basic tractor engine for bleeding, instead of flicking the lever on a lift pump, you use the squash suction nob on top of the filter - easy, it soon pumps fuel through, but yes could be the one way valve problem, crank it and crack an injector pipe till all the bubbles go, but i wouldnt worry about flooring it so much during this process, diesals dont need vast amounts of fuel going in to make em fire. Have a good look around all the pipe work to see if there is a weep anywhere - especially around the plastic clamps daihatsu used on the chassis rails to hold the pipes - mud and dirt normally hold the fuel in, corrosion is not necessarily visible in these areas but a major weak point.
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

no different 2
As above, probably a pin hole in fuel line, allowing fuel to run back to the tank, thus allowing air into fuel line.

what i have
what i have descovered
changed filter as the seal had a snag in it, (£12.34)
still nothing
so... pipe coming i to the filter, undid and put 1 from my tractor fuel tank, bled it and started and ran reli reli well! nver heard it so good!
so its the fuel lines, i thought
went to pick off the mud from around them and the lines were breaking off aswell!
i know dihatsus fuel lines rot but this was unreal!
so i ordered 6 meters of RUBBER fuel lines and got it delivered for £16.70)
so 30 quid and it should run better than ever, and have more power!!!
thought so
common problem corrosion, mine are rubber since last year
