Forum:
Hi all,
I was after some advice. I am planning on putting a K&N filter on the engine. i am also wanting to upgrade the exhaust as it is a 96 sportrak i dont want to de-cat it so what is the best way to go,obviously cheaper is good, (i got quoted £650 for a custom manifold)and if anybody knows anywhere of getting the work done im in cornwall or portsmouth area,
please can you explain it in simple terms as im not to great with a engine,
Many thanks

Cats ..............
You can't de-cat your sporty and drive it in on a public road. To be MOT standard it must have a catylist if registered after Sept of the 'J' reg year.
Catty Exhausts
With this sort of budget you can get a stainless system complete with cat, as with the other post, do not run without a cat, not just for legal reasons. Lambda sensors are fitted to the exhaust, this sends a signal to the ECU to control the fuel mixture, removal of the cat will make the lambda sensor redundent, this will screw up the fuelling.
Try looking on line for the specialist exhaust manufacturers, these will most likely have the information for improved exhaust systems for your vehicle. Some manufacturers even make silencers which can be dismantled and repacked.
