First thing to check if the central locking isn't working would be to check the fuse. If its not that would then be to check the wiring to the central locking motors and switches.

I agree with lurch but also check the large grey relay beneath the dash. It may not be there or may not be working. I recently upgraded the Sportrak to the ELXi pack and all was simple except I didn't realise that the relay existed. Once in it worked a treat and still does. All Models appear to have the same loom so those without the electrics can convert if you can pick the bits up cheaply off say ebay. Just remember the relay.
again, i agree with Lurch. loads more worked on my sportrak when i changed the broken fuses (loads). definitely worth a go before taking bits off. example: my horn stopped working so i ripped everything apart, only to find (quite a while later), that all i had to do was bend the bit of connector back so it touched the back of the steering wheel!!problem solved.
