thinking about buying a fourtrak

Forum:

hi i manage to find a really tidy fourtrak 2.8td tdx on a j plate:) my only worrie is fule consumption, what is the avrage mpg do you get?

a piece of string

Its another one of those - how long is a piece of string, are you light footed? cos if you are youll do any where between 30 and 40mpg, a constant 40mph at around 1650rpm will give 40mpg on a nice road, tow or carry lots of extra stuff and it drops to 25mpg, all cars do quite good mpg's its the driver who is to blame on fuel consumption.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

fuel consumption

25-35mpg or 8.5-9.5 litres /100kms.

beter than most 4wds, there aint much better, except ssangyongs, suzukis, daihatsu terios some late model utes etc/

i get 500-550 kms from about 47 litres.

thanks also do you know of

thanks also do you know of any mayjor poblems with fourtraks, im fitting a newer gearbox to this one and there is not a wiff of rust to be seen anywhere above or under

One problem

About the only real major thing that can ever go wrong with a fourtrak is RUST - especially wheel arch areas, obviously there is wear and tear issues and depends what you drive 'em like depends on various parts going a bit wrong - i.e off roading in real harsh conditions, but they are great machines just like the toyotas, mine is close to being round the clock twice, its off roaded alot, it tows alot, it pulls stuff etc etc and its still on all its original drivetrain from the factory 19 years ago - apart from new clutch obviously and suspension mods for off road purposes, there arnt many landrovers that can say that!!

Good Fourtrak

Fourtrak's are good vehicles when compared to its only real competitor, Land Rover; they do not continualy break down like Land Rover, nor do they consume the vast quantities of spares, or require as much costly servicing.

Rusty rear wheel arches are common body problems, as are sills on vehicles used extensively off road, remove the inner linings at the back of the vehicle and periodically treat to prevent rust.

Servicing is a must, Milners do a filter kit for £10.00 plus vat and delivery, this consists of oil, fuel, and air filters do servicing is not expensive if you do it yourself.

We have two Fourtrak's locally, both on farms and work extremely hard, they are serviced religiously and have both covered in excess of 500,000 miles and are totally original.
