Forum:
ive just ordered a winch for my sporttrak do i have to buy a winch bumper or not because there are 2 tidy holes in the middle of my original bumper that i could run her through im thinking i will have to do a lot of modifacations to get her on the vehcile it wont be a easy job like slapping one in a old landy i just wondered if there is any one who has fitted a winch to a daihatsu and could offer me some advice thankyou
lots of winches
Lots of people have fitted winches to daihatsu's, check out the image gallery!!, the way i did mine was to fit a piece of 1/2 inch U girder upside down with welded on bits of angle metal so it can be bolted through the end chassis stubbs where the original stud holes are for the old style pto winch add on, but i did it all in such a way that the original bumper could be refitted over the top and another 5mm metal plate clamped on top of that, bit hard to describe but piece of piddle to do, i dont know enough about sportys to tell you wether it has the same holes or chassis stubbs etc cos im talking about an old f70 fourtrak which was designed for the old pto winch of the transfer box - thats why you have a second neutral gear on the transfer lever... anyone else done a sporty??? in an old total off road magazine was a done up sporty there are pictures on this image gallery with it in, the company was called macsport - www.macsport.com i think have a google!!
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Winched
Mounting kits were available for these, but as they have been out of production for some time, nobody seems to sell them anymore.
Search archive advertisments in 4X4 magazines, contact these companies to see if they have any odd kits still as obsolete stock, this may yield results, or it may not.
If one of these companies once supplied these kits, see if they have any drawings for them, this would allow you, or a competent fabricator to make one up.
Failing this, it is a case of measure twice, and cut once; you will have to make one from scratch, this is not as daunting as it seems for you, or a competent fabricator.
