Ho ho ho! I'm back again! (no not Santa...)
So 2 weeks ago I had new discs and pads for my Terios fitted to the front. This was needed since the discs were worn down very bad and it all made a terrible noise.
Since then it's been absolutely brilliant, no horrible grindy noises or anything.... until now.
After a 3 hour journey the Terios started making a noise from the front left similar to one I had before. It is best described as a rubbing noise that varies with speed. I'm pretty sure it's coming from the front left wheel, where the issue has been before.
I don't think this is directly related to the brakes as there is no damage to the brake components that I can see and the car still drives dead straight (i.e. not pulling to the left as if the brakes were coming into action).
The noise gets louder with speed and oscillates slightly during slight left and right turns, akin to motorway bends.
I've had suggestions that the brake disc guards may be rubbing on the back of the disc which could be the issue but I've not looked so deep just yet. Another suggestion is that the brake caliper may be sat too close to the edge of the disc and as a result is rubbing on it (the edge, not the working surface).
Any other suggestions?
I'm going to phone the garage tomorrow to ask if they "put it back together right" after they fitted the brakes and see if they'll give a quick diagnosis on the sound. Hopefully this will be a cheap, quick fix having only had it out the garage two weeks!
Thanks for any suggestions in advance.
Hub Bearing?
I did have a PM with the last issue suggesting it could be a worn wheel hub bearing, as well. The chap said this had happened in a similar make and model age for him. Has anyone else experienced this?
if the garage has fitted new
if the garage has fitted new discs and pads the first thing to do is take it back to them, its unlikely a hub bearing would go that bad that quickly, they normally whine for a while before sounding like grinding , not immpossible though.
more likely one of the brake pads is sticking in contact with the disc cos the calipers wernt cleaned properly when the new pads were fitted,
