Blown fuse?

Forum:

Some advice please.....

I've just changed the battery in my Sportrak and stupidy managed to connect it the wrong way round albeit very briefly - a few sparks as the live touched the terminal.

Anyway having now go it the right way round nothing happens when I turn on the ignition - no instrument lights, no starter etc. I can though turn the lights on OK. I'm assuming a fuse has blown but cannot obviously see one that has.

Could someone advise which one it may be and where it is. I've noted 2 large fuses attached to the live terminal - is it one of these?

Many thanks

Blown Fuse?

Hi Steve, Yes Steve it prob is one of these. Have a good look at the top off the fuse and you will notice a copper strip in side which looks kinda like a bridge if not then its blown this also could be checked with a multi meter set to continuaty or with the batt connected a light bulb with some wire attached. Conect one wire to earth (-) and the other each side of the fuse to see if there is still a conection there.

Hope this helps

Geoff

Thanks for the help so far.

Thanks for the help so far. I've now replaced to 2 large fuse links at the top of the +ve terminal but still no change. From looking at other threads and trying to interpret the wiring diagram it looks like the prblem is the F/L 1.0. Where do I find this? I believe it's somewhere on the live feed from the battery down towards the alternator but I really don't know what it should look like. There is a 'connector' bolted to the bottom of the battery tray - engine side, but this is not openable or removable by the looks of it.

Any help appreciated

They fitted a number of fusible links in differing locations, depending upon the market for the vehicle.

It is a case of following the main power leads and checking with a meter until you find it.

Thanks assassin. Trouble is

Thanks assassin. Trouble is I don't have a meter. What does one of these fusible links look like? Is it within the sheathing and so I wouldn't be able to see it or would it be obvious if I knew what it looked like?

Battery wrong way around

I did the same stupid thing because the terminal connections are nearly the same size
