dash out and its located

dash out and its located pretty much dead center behind the blower mech if memory serves me correctly !

Pig of a job!

Yes .. done this several times!
Always replace the matrix. Never, never, never get it repaired - they rot! Best to get it recored at a specialist radiator company : see your telephone yellow pages. Cost is approx £90 and the result is as good as a brand new matrix.

Method.
Remove both front seats - you need space to work! Remove the radio. Remove/detach the arms of the heater control levers. You must release the connecting hoses from the matrix at the engine side of the baulkhead.
The whole dash can eventually be lifted rather than removed. Undo all the dashboard bolts. I recollect bolts are hidden beneath the windscreen covers [prise away their shields to expose the bolts], other bolts are obvious but one is under the dash and difficult to reach. When the dash is loose it can be lifted upwards sufficiently to expose the heater box/matrix - support the dashboard on few blocks of timber. The speedo cable will disconnect at the speedometer.
The matrix is inside a box under the radio. It pulls out from the heater box. Take care not to bend the heater controls when extracting the matrix.
Overall a pig-of-a-job. Take your time - think before you pull!
The refit is very easy and quick. Take care not to bend those heater levers!
