Why do you use a Toyota axle
Why do you use a Toyota axle over the standard 'trak one?
Toyota/Diahatsu
Probably because most of the Foutrak parts came out of the Toyota parts bins, as they were the majority share holders and it made economic sense, as Toyota were the bigger manufacturers. Guess where the engine was scourced from, and whose trucks were fitted with a six cylinder version.
And the probable reason the Fourtrak ( the largest vehicle Diahatsu ever produced) was no longer built, was it competed with Toyota's Land Cruiser line up, as Diahatsu was to market micro cars rather than to compete with Toyota.

Reason for Toyota
there are actually very simple reasons I chose to use these axles,
1 Because I already had them
2 they have Factory fitted Difflocks front and rear
3 Discs all round
they are 8" wider than the fourtrak axle and much beefier, gearing is 3.6:1 which is a little lower than the fourtrak axles so will easily run the 33" tyres fitted but when I go to the the 37" tyres I have waiting, aftermarket ring and pinions are plentiful and reasonably cheap from the US in a multitude of gearing ratios up to 5.29:1
Best regards

Thanks for explaining both of you. I didn't know there was a 6cy version on the engine, is it the actual Daihatsu engine with 2 more cylinders or just similar? Whats the name?
