It only occurs when I am cornering to the right. I thought it was the CV joint so I replaced the fixed hubs with free wheeling ones. The knocking still occurs so I have painted white marks on both drive shafts (across the shaft and the wheel). After driving the marks are still lined up thus the shafts aren't turning so I guess it isn't the CV joins. What should I look for now?
what car mate? Is it on full
what car mate?
Is it on full lock, or any time?
Is the damper OK?
Wheels nuts?
If its a sportrak are the little clips that hold the brake pads in, or are the pads rattling?
cheers
Rob
please always state vehicle
best guess, wheel bearing, front nearside bearing, when you turn right it pushes pressure on the left, knock knock knock, jack it up, spin the wheel to check, give it a wiggle.
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Diahatsu Fourtrak independent 2.8 TD
Sorry forget to mention the model. It's a Diahatsu Fourtrak independent 2.8 TD.
I have rocked the car violently whilst on the ground and I can hear no clunking from the bearings. I have also jacked the front and tried to find horizontal or vertical play in each wheel but no obvious play apparent.
yes it occurs at, or close to, full lock (particularly when towing)
Always on RH turns also it sounds like it is coming from the offside(UK Right Hand Side) of the car.
yer some sort of ball joint then
but its strange you can't find play when jacked up, be vigorous with the wheels, also get someone to turn the steering wheel.

Ball joints.
Check the top and bottom ball joints. Probably the bottom joint has failed. You will need to jack the car and lever the ball joint/suspension using a very heavy steel bar. May not be obvious but it will take lots of leverage to pull the joint upwards from the suspension arms. If the rubber around the joint is holed you can be certain the ball joint is rusted and has failed - if the rubber is holed it is a MOT failure.
MB ... 4x4 wheels will have some play in the bearing ... about 3degrees max.
