oil leak

It seems to leak on to the shield under the engine, then the oil runs over the back leaving two long streaks of oil. I believe it is the engine oil that is showing low on the dipstick

right

my thoughts are this, if you believe its the engine and its running behind, I woud suggest the sump has a leak, if not the worst case scenario I can think of at the back is the crank shaft seal has failed and is eaking into the fly wheel/ bell housing, check also pipes/ joins for turbo etc.

If yOu check the oil levels

If yOu check the oil levels in engine, gearbox and transfer box it should reveal which one is very low.
If it's fear or trans box it may be that they were overfilled

cheers

If it is the engine: Check

If it is the engine:

Check the levels daily, if it is the engine i would suggest sump plug, sump gasket, rocker cover gasket, or a breather/oil pipe loose or leaking. It could also be the crankshaft oil seals, one at each end.

If it is the gearbox i would suggest the numerous gaskets, most likely the gear to transfer case gasket. Also check the drain and filler plugs.

If it is the transfer case or axles i would suggest the filler/drain plugs and the oil seals.

Thoroughly clean everything with degreaser until it is spotless, run the engine at high idle for a couple of minutes, this will show where it is coming from. Also spread a little talcum powder around the suspected leak areas, this will help show a leak.

Apply the same to the transfer case and gearbox, you could also put newspaper down to highlight the approximate leak area.

oil leak

Gosh, it sounds as if it could be all sorts but I will do as suggested as this will narrow down the possibilities, many thanks

My F78 has a small drip type

My F78 has a small drip type leak from the hose exiting the turbo. I think the hose is perished/soft, and lets oil come through. Its only a tiny amount, looks worse than it is. I'll replace the hose when I get round to finding a hose to match.

If your engine has a leak on

If your engine has a leak on the tubbo then look at it urgently, is it the feed or return pipe.

If it is the feed it will damage the turbo as this controls the pressure and flow of oil to the turbo. If it is the return then replace it, many become blocked and put too much oil into the turbo. The return has to be free flowing to allow the oil to drain away freely.

errrm.....not sure. Its the

errrm.....not sure.
Its the large diameter hose coming off the top of the turbo that heads off in the direction of the air filter....does that help?
