Hijet wheel problem

Forum:

Hi everybody, I have a '99 Hijet MPV which has started making an alarming grinding/rubbing noise from the back nearside wheel. It doesn't happen all the time, it's just when there is someone in the passenger seat and the van is turning left.
I asked a mechanic to check it out when I got the oil changed a couple of months ago but he said he didn't find anything wrong, obviously he missed something because the problem persists.
If anyone has any suggestions of a possible cause I'd be very grateful.

jack n spin

sounds to me like its just a wheel bearing.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Hijet wheel problem

Thanks for the replies and suggestions, it gives me somewhere to start looking, as you've probably guessed, I'm no mechanic.

lots and lots .......

Could be a list of possibilities:
1. wheel bearing - inner or outer.
2. broken brake shoe retaining spring
3. a stone caught inside the hub
4. brake pad unstuck from its back plate
5. a price of brake pad detached from the shoe
6. the shock absorber is worn at its fixture - the rubber bung worn away. The shock is worn and the weight of the passenger is bottoming the car onto the revolving wheel.
7. the brake drum is not firm onto the hub - loose screws
8. the brake slave cylinder is loose on the back plate.
9, the backplate is loose on the axle
10.tyre has been damaged and rubs when turning left.
11.the wheel rim is damaged
12. etc etc ................

IMHO suport on axle stands and take off the wheel and give the whole thing a thorough inspection.
