Forum:
Good evening all. wondering if any of you could help me with my problem.
i have a yrv turbo for 2 years and this is his first problem......
when putting it into reverse it takes about 2/3 seconds to select the gear then a clunking sound and it seems to force it into gear.....and gets worse as the car heats up.
all of the other gears are completely fine .
today i have had the oil changed(transmission) and that has not solved it..
any thoughts??...just hoping it isnt the gearbox...as i take it they are not cheap.
thanks you for any response
Hi, These gearboxes appear to
Hi,
These gearboxes appear to be the achilles heel of these otherwise fantastic little cars. Was the transmission fluid still red before you got it changed? I know it is not possible to drain all (5?) litres out in one go via the drain plug, although some specialists have a way of doing it I believe.
When reverse is selected, I'm told it puts the most amount of strain on the box. Mine takes approx 1 - 1.5 sec to engage. It did clonk once, but I think it was down to the fact I didn't engage the handbrake and was on an incline and the car had rolled forward in park. Touchwood hasn't done it again since. Someone else on here, probably Daihatsudave or jpor maybe able to shed more light on it. Hope you get it sorted.

Good luck with this. Hope
Good luck with this. Hope it's a quick repair. And yeah if your offering having a spare autobox would sound like a good proposition
Don't auto boxes have some sort of paper filtering system? Something I picked up from an old Wheeler Dealers episode I watched once. Maybe this is something that causes this.

Cheers for the reply mate. Geuss I'm just gonna have to go down a dealer and bite the bullet.
If I owned a normal car I'd just scrap it....but not the yrv.
He will live........

Sounds like it was too late
Sounds like it was too late to get the transmission oil changed perhaps? From the sounds of it some damage had already been done before you got the transmisison oil changed
Possibly something us YRV Turbo owners need to do as a regular chack under the bonnet, have a feeling if you take it for granted that you have enough oil in the transimission then nothing will go wrong
As Wayne has said keep us posted, would be interested to find out how this happening. This is the 2nd posting this month on a failure, a possible issue with Daihatsu Auto boxes perhaps?
