Water pump

Forum:

my work Sportrak decided to vent all its water in Crick today - took me 12 litres and hour and half to get back to Northampton!
I have stripped it down and it was losing water from the water pump, which has small 2 holes top and bottom of the pump casing.
I swapped the pump for another I had in the shed and its doing the same thing - are both pumps knackered?
The holes are between the front and rear bearings of the pump shaft, if that makes any sense?

Yes they are knackered. Mine

Yes they are knackered. Mine did the same thing. Those holes are to alow air in and out of casing as it heates up during use. Water will only get to them if the seals on the pump, or the barings them selves are knack'd. A new pump from Millner didn't cost me too much, job done. Aren't they a sod to get too? Take the timming belt off to change a water pump... Very un-Daihatsu like engeniering.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
