When I last had my Fourtrack MOT'd I had to have some welding done on the sills. A friend who knows what he is doing did it for me and I drove it home ,about 7 or 8 ,miles. Went to go to work the next night and got about 150yds and it very uncharacteristically packed up.My truck has always been 100% reliable in t he 5 years I have had it so i was mortified. It was cold, dark and snowing so it was no fun getting it back. We called the breakdown and he said it needed towing in and some work done it but my old man was adamant it was a fuse somewhere so the same friend came out and it was, he said it was the ignition fuse gone. I couldn't ask as the truck had given him a headache with the welding but I have always wondered if this could have been because of the welding or just a coincidence. Any ideas, please, its due for its MOT in February, can't wait, thanks.
Nope
Unconnected.

Usually it is connected, it would be the voltage surge from welding passing through the fuse. Normally this is no problem with a new fuse, but with an older fuse it is weakening an already weak fuse, and not uncommon on older vehicles.
If welding is required i would advocate removing the battery at both poles and fitting one of the anti surge protectors. Most respectable welders of vehicles have them, if they don't they are cheap to buy at around
also
a wise move to remove alternator plug fittings.
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!
