YRV Turbo Engaging Reverse

Forum:

Just enquiring to all you fellow Turbo owners. When selecting reverse there is the usual sort of 1 second delay but when it engages it seems to do it in 2 stages, the first one is less noticeable then the second, whereas when selecting D4 it engages in one "clonk" not 2. It engages nice and smoothly by the way. I'm sure it has always done this, just noticed it whilst shunting back and forth earlier.

Incidently the D4 light has been flashing lots lately after starting it in the mornings. Not every day but is too frequent all the same. Have hooked up a multimeter to the lighter to monitor starting voltages, although I'm not convinced it's a voltage issue (although I hope it is). One member said if the voltage drops below 9v at start up it caused the D4 light to flash.

Next time you select reverse please see if yours does the same!! The paranoia went but is slowly returning!!!!

Cheers Smile

Use reverse a lot

Hi Wayne,
I use reverse a lot in my YRV turbo as I like to reverse the car up the driveway to make it easier to get out of the drive in the mornings Smile
Have noticed the reverse gear does take time to engage (roughly 1 to 2 seconds) which can make it hard to get the car to reverse quickly. Have noticed on occassion that in reverse the car can be a little sluggish and have quoted this to Daihatsu-Dave in the past that I have had the odd grumbling with reverse, but as I have found if you are blatting the car and stopping immediately and then throwing the reverse gear then the gear system has a bit of a think on what you are doing before engaging. perhaps you are like me and being a little impatient? Wink

Yep, impatient that's me!

You're right, I am impatient! Is quite annoying when you want to chuck it into reverse quickly, feels like an eternity waiting for it to engage.

Good job the auto box has some common sense...

Know what you mean. But I am happy enough for it to do this as once when driving the car did some manual changing of the gears using the lever (other car is a manual and when swapping over keep thinking I drive a maunal in one and an Auto in the other, doesn't look good stalling an Impreza when you don't change gears SadSmile ) and mistakenly whilst doing 30 MPH selected Reverse gear by mistake, luckily the system decided not to select this for me and kept me going in Drive Smile Lucky or what... Wink
