F75 Conversion to manual locking hubs

Forum:

It would seem that my auto locking hubs are finally on their last legs. I'm more than likely going to change them for manual locking hubs. My question is if I were to do a part tarmac part offroad/ice journey and I was to switch back to 2H in the cab WITHOUT unlocking the hubs would this cause any damage? Or would there only be increased 'friction' on the axle which in turn doesn't give me the best MPG. Thanks in advance.

I've just converted my sportrak to manual hubs, it didn't have auto hubs, just kind of end plates. So all the time I used it prior to conversion it was the equivalent of leaving the manual hubs in. It had no adverse effects at all, except obvious fuel use and some wear and tear.
Now that I have converted the hubs I will be doing as you in winter and just shifting in and out of 4wd without jumping out and changing the hubs every few yards

cheers
