Forum:
been out in thhe fourtrak today.... im getting the charge and water in fuel filter lights flashing at me occasionally.... the last time at below 1500 revs the turbo light was flashing aswell... all three were flashing together as i came up the road.... theyve only done it for about 30 sec at anyone time ... but its happened 4 or five times in 10 mile or so. fan belt was slack so ive tightened that... dont seem to be any bare wires under the bonnet, got to go out again on the school run in a minute will see if it does it again.
im guessing if it does its time to pull the dash apart looking for something loose or bare,... unless anyones got any bright ideas.
best guess as ive dealt with same problem
your alternator is not charging right an has become faulty.
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

battery volts are on the
battery volts are on the bottom of the white bit before starting and come up when running..so dont think theres a major charging problem .. . fan belt was well slack .moved the clamp bolt nearly an inch along the clamp to tighten it... so maybe the belt was slipping a bit at times.. done the school run since... about4 miles didnt see any more flashing
ive never seen 3 presumably unconnected lights flash together like that... as if they were all connected to the indicater relay
been out again this morning ,
been out again this morning , the flashing lights didnt.... does look like the slack drive belt was slipping on mild acceleration... causing the flashing lights... god knows how... but battery is stll fully charged... started ok in the ice this morning to take the aged parent shopping cos his disco battery is flat.... looks like ive got to play with a discovery when it thaws a bit.
I will throw a spanner into
I will throw a spanner into the works here, if the vehicle has been stood for a period it could most likely be damp in the connectors. The moisture partially short circuits them, but when they have dried out they are fine.
Remove the connectors when they are fully dry, clean them with fine sandpaper, and replace them. Spray them with a light coating internally of Waxoyl or similar while they are together, this will seal them from moisture.
Do not use WD40 as this corrodes the terminals and wires over time as these are copper.
