4wd dash light...quick question...

Forum:

I know this is a constant thing on the fourtrak. However here's a quick question, if 4wd was NOT working, would the front hubs attempt to lock if they had NOT been switched to lock (manual hubs)...therefore making the usual grinding noise associated with unlocked hubs attempting to lock, or auto hubs which are knackard?

My 4wd light has stopped working, but I feel it may be a bulb, the switch on the transfer case, or the cable between the 2.

Also how do I get at the switch on the transfer case?

Cheers!

further investigation...

of the site, has revealed that in 4wd low the light does not come on either, and as this is mechanicaly applied, rather than electric push button, this can surely only mean that the bulb has gone in the dash (as 4wd low doesn't use the solenoid). There are no odd noises or feels from the transmission (110 mile round trip x-mas shopping in 2wd yesterday).

Am I on the right track, or talking complete tosh?

well yesterday the light came

well yesterday the light came on some of the time when in 4wd, but this morning it didn't again.

I'm guessing the switch on the transfer case or the cable going to it. Can someone tell me which switch it is on the tbox as I plan to get under there this coming weekend, weather permitting.

The switch is located on the

The switch is located on the drivers side on the front face of the transfer case where it protrudes beyond the gearbox. It could also indicate that the plunger operating 4WD is not going to its full stroke, which would not operate the switch either.
