Forum:
Hello everyone.
I hope someone might be able to help me with an annoying problem. I bought a 96 Fourtrak TDX about two months ago, private sale but I was able to check out the service history etc. I have done about 2000 miles so far and all is going well apart from on two occasions I have had starting problems. The problem is as follows. The engine will turn over but not fire up (as if no fuel is getting into the system). If I try again it might start for a couple of revs but then die again. After about four or five attempts it will finally start and will run fine. As I said this has only happened twice in 2000 miles but it is begining to annoy me. The first time was firts thing in the morning but the other time was in the afternoon on a fairly warm day after a 15 mile trip. Can anybody help!
P.S. I have just started it this morning after the failure yesterday and it started first time!
Starting probs
I would be looking at the fuel filter - replace it and check the old filter for excess water or rust from the fuel tank. If severe then drain and clean the tank. Fuel starvation puts a lot of load on the fuel pump as it lacks lubrication.

Wombat,
Thanks for the reply. I'll have it checked out as the sevice was done around this time and the fuel filter was supposed to have been changed.
Thanks
Jon
