Hi all,
I'm looking to buy my 1st Daihatsu Fourtrak, I've never owed a Daihatsu before so no very little about them. I'm a HGV fitter by trade so have messed about with jeeps etc. I have owned a Navara Aventura, both 2.5 & 2.8 diesel shoguns but fancy something abit different.
The Fourtrak I will buy will be used for S&D with very little off roading at all. I'm looking for a 2001 model or there abouts.
Q1 = General faults and floors with engine and trans
Q2 = Bodywork and chassis problems?
Q3 = What to look for when buying one.
Q4 = How reliable are they?
Thanks in advance Andy

No inherent problems with the engines, just plodders which are very reliable and understressed units. Mileage unimportant as long as they are regularly serviced as many have over 500,000 without problems.
Transmissions reliable but issues with the mainshaft nut which sometimes loosens, a simple fix, remove a cover and tighten. Propshaft U/J's can be problematic but cost around
Thanks for the reply
Thanks for the reply assassin, looking forward to owning my 1st one. Would really like a late model one but will wait and see what arises. I have ebay, autotrader and such like to hand so hopefully something in the next month woujld be nice.

I would advise spending time going through the vehicle, there are many which have a hard life, but it is not detrimental if maintained.
Usual things are prevention, fully treat the chassis internally and the entire underside, and inside the rear wheel arches. Grease all the steering and universal joints regularly, and attend to the automatic front hubs which can cause problems. It is merely a case of removing them and cleaning and packing with grease to stop water ingress and prevent internal corrosion.
Take a look at the How It Works section as most things are covered.
