Forum:
Hi, following on from my post about the faliure of the trailing arm mounts on the back axle, I have a question about the differential (The finer points of which are a closed book to me!). I decided to replace the front oil seal whilst the axle is off the vehicle. When I unstaked the lock washer and removed the flange retaining nut I was surprised that it required little or no force to get it off (certainly nowhere near the tightening torque of 25 kgf-m in the workshop manual). I have now replaced the seal but am in a quandry about tightening the nut back up. Given that the nut can't have moved relative to the shaft and that wear somewhere in the diff has caused the original nut slackness, should I re-tighten to 25 kgf-m or will I cause damage and should instead aproximate the state that existed when I stripped the flange down? Thanks.
Hi, another common problem
Hi, another common problem with these is the pinion shaft inner bearing collapsing. A loose nut maybe a first indication of this?? Might be worth checking whilst you have it stripped out.
