Fried Front Diff ???

Forum:

Hi,
Bought a sportrak riveria 97 today at auction to play in mud! Paid more than should as looked great but problems on drive home - should have known better...

:s :-s Blush

Car felt like brakes on slightly and weaved a bit when got to 45mph. Arrived at home to see smoke coming from drivers side axle area and smell of burning transmission oil so suspect terminal front diff failure. I'll have a proper look in the morning but appreciate advice on where to get things like a replacement diff? Looking forward to getting fixed and going out to play and probaby break something else ...

thanks for comments. When i

thanks for comments. When i got underneath left hand side of gearbox is wet with oil at front. Definitely smells and looks like tranmission oil and clutch slips when you first pull off suspect oil on clutch caused last nights smoke. COULD FRONT SEAL IN GEARBOX HAVE GONE?
Car rolls fine when out off gear/handbrake off but something is definitely holding it back as struggles to get going even when clutch is biting. when i turned left into gate i heard right hand front tyre squeal and car stopped in its tracks - was in 2H at time. I'll check front brake properly when rain dies down. I'm near stansted airport... all advice welcome as new to sportrak and been a long time since i've had my spanners out.
