Chunky is about to depart.

Forum:

Hi all.

Not been on here for a while. Sorry to say I will be defecting. Chunky, our Fourtrak has suffered a terminal injury.

The rear half shaft broke, at the location of the bearing/collar, in board of the brake drum, with the result of loosing a rear wheel, complete with the brake drum and the resultant body damage ( image on Fourtrak section/images). It appears to been a gradual failure due to rust apparant in the fracture, and the smoothing of the fracture as opposed to the tearout when it snapped.

I have thoughts on this half shaft failure and a few years ago the bearing were replaced along with the collar, both sides !!!.

So I have to admit its a Land Rover replacment, a newish model (2nd user) 90 Defender, with all the trimming, makes the price we paid for the Fourtrak small change all those years ago.

I am getting older, and we can get a hoist to lift my partner, all 52.5 kg's of her, (tetraplegic, arms and legs no longer funtion due to an accident), which is made to fit the passenger footwell which is removable and a little crane to lift in an elctric wheel chair through the rear door. All designed for the Defender

I will watch the site and pop back occasionaly, thanks to all of you, especially "assassin" for the help/advice you have given us.

Edward.

Sorry to hear you are moving to the opposition Wink - I hope that your Defender proves reliable without too much grief from any electronic engine management systems!

I always enjoy reading your comments!
