Forum:
I'm looking for a new set of tyres for the spring/summer. I'm running 31 10.5 15's insa turbos but want something more fuel efficient and i'll keep the insa's for off roading days, would i be better going smaller? narrower? or what? so would be 30 9.5 15's be better or 215 80 15's????? also i'll be doing a little off road, maybe 70 on road and 30 off.
Are Insa Turbo Mountain AT any good and will they wear well?
I'd love bfg all ter but can't afford that amount, i hear they last for around 50k?
Any help would be brilliant..
Cheers
David

Fourtrak
Its a fourtrak F78 1998, only got 44k on it so hopefully it'll last a while ha ha!!
but only
if its kept well wax oiled and greasy, ha ha, erm remoulds are good tyres to have but i find you get what you pay for, i use the old colway all terrains and bf goodrich ats, bf on front, remoulds on rear, lasting good all around vehicle but remoulds are half price and i would say last half life aswell looking at them ( they have done maybe 20k miles )
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

BFG AT Second hand
As long as you can have a look first there's nothing wrong with a secondhand pair of BFGs, obviously how long they'll last will depend on the condition they're in & how you use them but I've bought a few pairs of seconds & reckon they're better value than remoulds. I totally agree with 'If theres mud..' you get what you pay for with tyres. Tracker remoulds I think are about £50 but the set I had on my land rover only lasted about a 12k before they were cracking in the sidewalls, BFG ATs I think are about £125, the ones on my fourtrak were seconds & have done 35k with LOADS of life left in & only one valve leak. Now running BFG MTs on the back & ATs on the front I get about 29mpg mixed inc. light towing.
I like the Cooper tyres,
I like the Cooper tyres, premuim brand but without the premuim price tag and they last very well on road, and good off road.
I would suggest 235/75/15's as they fit both the original Daihatsu steel and alloy rims and give a good compromise.
Go to the Tyre Spec website and look at the Discoverer AST II which are a 70/30 biased tyre. Quiet on road, good grip, fantastic wear rates (60,000 onlast vehicle before it was sold and tyres still good)and pretty good of road.
