Forum:
just been on milneroffroad website and dont know whether to order original cam belt or non original is there much difference in quality as the price for a genuine cam belt is £20 more than the non genuine part. will the non genuine belt last as long?
Dont even need a cam belt
apparently dont have cam belt but gears, so how do you service it and does this mean the engine has been replaced with an older version as I thought gears were for earlier models and mine is g reg 1989.
gears
are gear engines better than ones that need a cam belt
Belt
You certain its got gears rather than a cam belt? I think its a Sportrak with cam belt and 4tracks had gears.
Most cam belts are made by the same makers and then distributed to garages and shops. Daihatsu will certainly have a good profit margin so I suggest you go to your local motor shop and ask the experts.
PS .. I replace my Sporty cam belt [J reg]. Quite easy but some cam alignment marks were missing. Suggest you count the belt ribs between the pulleys before removing the old belt. Helps when fitting the new belt provided its on tdc etc.
