Forum:
I had a new clutch fitted last December. Today I noticed when the engine is idling in neutral there is quite a loud vibrating rattling noise and when I depress the clutch it goes as soon as I put it back in neutral with the clutch up it starts again, any ideas?
Bearing
I would fairly confidently say that its the clutch release bearing

noisy clutch
Is this a big problem and why would it be doing it on a clutch that is only 3 months old? would adjusting the clutch help.

Not really. It is coused by the barring being dry. Did you fit the new clutch? Not everyone changes the baring when they do the clutch. It may quiet down with use. It probably wont. Not saying it wont go wronge but I have known of others that have gone on for 1000's of miles like this with no bother. Changing it is not a hard job, but a long one, as you basicly have to to a clutch change. Ie engine or gearbox out.

Hi Nev, no I didnt fit it
Hi Nev, no I didnt fit it myself, some one I know did the job for me, I dont know if they changed the bearing, I know it was a new clutch and a spiggot and a gasket for the gearbox as they put a new nut on the main shaft of the gear box too as it the other one had sheared off.
dont worry
a year after my clutch renewed, its now doing the same thing as you, but will live on like the energiser bunny, all previous clutches have done this too and its never an issue, just a noise on tickover.
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!
