Forum:
Hello Daihatsu folk,
Can anyone help? Managed to get my Daihatsu Terios immobiliser fob wet today and although I dried it out it will not work with car. Can open car with key and get in but engine will not start as immobiliser is activated (can't open car with key to driver's side due to a recent break in attempt in London).
I have another smaller key which I think may be for disabling the immobiliser but I can't find anywhere to use it - had a good look under the bonnet but no luck.
Any help much appreciated, otherwise I'm going to have to call out a Spanish tow truck...
Thanks
Jayne
Immobiliser
Immobiliser is inside the engine compartment. Plastic 'box' with wires towards the balkhead. The key hole is beneath a plastic cover.
Fob .... remove and replace the fob's battery. The reference number is on one face of the battery - get one from any motor shop / supermarket / camera shop etc.
With battery removed press and hold the buttons for 10 seconds to dicharge the capacitors inside the fob.
Fit new battery correct way up.
Aim at the car and keep pressing 'lock' x4 until the car responds.
No response then the fob is damaged.
NB ,,, some fobs can be tuned. There might be a small screw slot on the fob's circuit board. Turning the screw changes the frequency. If changed do so gradually and try firing at the car x4 each time.
Thanks
Hi Mace,
What can I say? I am v grateful for your help. Followed the fob battery advice - discharged the capacitors before heading back to the car this morning. It worked perfectly. Now carrying a spare battery in the car for the fob and will seek out the immobiliser key hole too in case it happens again.
Would like to buy you a 'virtual beer'! Thanks for saving me a lot of time and, no doubt, money.
Cheers - great forum

Beer
Pleased to hear you are back on the road. Always carry a spare fob battery!
Message me on your return and I will share a glass with you if you are local.
Take care where you park in Spain. I once parked in Salamanca, main busy street, where they kindly smashed my rear screen before removing all the cars contents. The Guarda were totally disinterested, "your British, they target GB cars so just fill out this form."
