Forum:
Hi,
Having just had the gearbox changed on my Fourtrack independent the 4WD light is doing strange things. I am fairly certain it is in 2WD but the light comes on when I am in any gear apart from 1st - the garage seems to think it is the switch, any Ideas?
Anyway I have had a hunt through the forum, and my manual and cannot find either a diagram or an detailed explanation of what goes where. please could somone point me in the right direction so I can take it to bits and find (and fix) the problem?
TIA
ive never had a problem with
ive never had a problem with mine, so havent ever delved into the workings.... from posts on here i dont think anybody else has either.
the position of the main gear lever should have no effect .... the 4wd is in the transfer box... i would suspect wires or pipes have been put back in the wrong places ... possibly something on the main gear lever linkage crushing a pipe or shorting a wire but thats a wild guess.
maybe the easiest way forward is to park next to a working vehicle and crawl under both to check that all pipes and wires are in the right places.
easiest way to check is 4wd is actually working is to find a tree surrounded by wet grass, chain the towbar to the tree, stick it in low first at tickover , then get out and see how many wheels are spinning

hello forums!
my first fourtrak, my first post, and my first problem is the same as mothmans.
it's an f78 with manual locker hubs, and the 4wd light is on except when in first, regardless of 2wd/4wd hi/low.
4wd is working perfectly other than that. lucky me i guess...better go touch wood!
looking forward to many years of fourtrak fun
4wd light.
Hi.I had the same problem after changing the clutch. There are a few electrical connections to the gearbox/transfer box and two of them can be easily cross connected. (I think with all the others it is not physically possible to get them wrong).
One of the aforementioned operates the 4wd light on the dash.
The other,I believe, opens the turbocharger waste gate when in 1st. gear to prevent overreving.
Simply swop them over and normal service is resumed!
