Leaking front axle- F78 fourtrak

Forum:

Front axle is leaking oil at the join between the axle and the drive shaft on the front passenger side. I don't have a manual for this.
Is there an oil seal inside?
Do I get to it by pulling out the whole driveshaft on the passenger side?
Is there any special knowledge I need to complete this task?
What oil does the axle take?
Where can I get one of these seals and does it have a special name or can I just call it 'that oil seal that stops the axle oil falling out on the front passenger side'!!?
Thanks, Sean.

It is a very simple job, and

It is a very simple job, and Milners stock the seals, and any bearing specialist will have them listed in their technical data. They will stock them also.

To change:

Mark the propshaft to drive flange joint so you know which way it goes on reassembly.

Undo the four bolts from the propshaft to drive flange, pull the propshaft clear and pack it up or hang it from the chassis. Do not force the propshaft, or put extreme angles as it will damage the joints.

Look inside the drive flange and you will see a nut (30mm socket required) undo the nut and the drive flange pulls out. It is splined.

Prise out the old seal, install the new seal and lubricate the sealing flange, install the drive flange, nut, and tighten. Refit the propshaft noting the alignment marks.

Takes about 30 minutes, including tea break.

Thanks, but...

Thanks for the reply assassin but are we discussing the same seal? Mine has 6 bolts and sits between the front passenger side half shaft and the front axle. Not the oil seal between the front driveshaft and the middle of the front axle... Can I undo the 6 bolts and seperate the join between the axle and the halfshaft?

Regards,
Sean.
