Help with mechanic!

Forum:

Finding it really impossible to find a specilist diesel mechanic, in Derbyshire,or Nottinghamshire that can have a look at my Piaggio Porter 1.4 Diesel van.

Its blowing blue smoke out, every now and again......can never telll when its gonna do it......it just does!

I get a split second warning that its gonna bellow out some smoke, by hearing a funny rattle noise and then a short burst of power...and then the blue smoke screen!

Various 'mechanics; have said everything from knackered engine to internal travel fuel pump set up???

The van is a 56 reg and its only done 7,100 miles.....thats right, 7,100 miles......inherited it from the father in law and he did very little miles in it (he knew that i always wanted it!!).

Its desperate stations now as i'm finding it frustrating finding a good, honest, reliable, specialised diesel mechanic!!

ANY advise would be VERY greatfull.....don't really wanna sell it as its in brill condition (inside and out) and 7,100 miles!

Cheers

Hi,
Well with a low mileage vehicle I would start with the simple things,it could old or dodgy fuel so advise to drain diesel tank and replace fuel filter re-fill tank with at least 15 litres of good fuel eg BP or shell. Try that and see how you go,I never use tesco fuel as mpg figures are lower than other fuels so you don't really save any money. If you ask any garage to carry out this repair it is straight foward, normally they only don't want to do repairs as customers demand that the fault will 100% fixed and with these vans are so few and far between I don't think you will find an expert. Hope this helps Marcus.

DIESEL PROBS

Hi, sorry to hear of your troubles, i'm actually in the same boat so double grateful if anyone else can help. My van i've had for about 4 months, love it, has made my business grow and now i've outgrown it! was actually going to sell it next month with years ticket tax etc but today serious clanking bottom end and blue bellowing smoke.
its still turning but as i imagine fubar Sad
rac towed us home just now, gutted. Any spare or repairs going so i can get a replacement engine? many thanks in advance
i was putting oil in every week, so not a huge suprise, but still...

Blue smoke = engine oil

Blue smoke implies that it's burning engine lubrication oil.

You may get a surge of power, as diesel engines will run on engine oil - I wonder if you have some problem with the crankcase breather system, and it's collecting some oil, which is then burnt in one go, causing power surge + blue smoke. Check that out for starters.
