Hi
Just a general question my Fourtrack 2.8 T/D seems to struggle to pull a horse trailer with two horses in 2 wheel drive the weight would be rougly 2800 KG. Would it be best to use in high 4 whilst towing other than eating my fuel would there be any lasting problems? I live in Yorkshire which is very hilly other than this do you think there maybe a problem??
Any info would be great.
Cheers
Donna

hmm, it should pull, your getting on towards the vehicle limit(3.5t) but hills n things wont help, dont use high 4, pointless, its low 4 that will pull it no problem, you wanna check all fuel system ok, filters n such, also what size tyres you have will make a difference, are you sure the weight is 2800 kg??

Hi
It was recenty serviced and the filters were changed. Will i have to take it to a garage to see if the fuel system is working or can i check plus how would i do this?
The tyre size is 255/70R15.
The weight is no more than that the trailer is 790kg and the horses weight no more than a 1000KG each.
Thanks for your time.
They did mention that oil is
They did mention that oil is leaking from the turbo buts its a minimal amount and said not to worry about it. could this be the cause???

this is the first time ive
this is the first time ive used it to tow so not sure had a warrior 2.5TD befor this and that seemed ok sometimes struggled on hills.
It fires up ok no problems and no smoke.
how many miles has engine
how many miles has engine done? has it had a new clutch? if its the first time towing like this it might need thrashing through the revs first, also try using some shell optimax diesal or whatever its called, alot of fourtraks get used as plodders, loose power like this.

Just one thing to mention.
Just one thing to mention. DON'T use 4x4 on the road if you can at all avoid it, as it will put a lot of inneccesary strain on all the running gear ans the transfure box. If it neccesarry to use low box to get up a hill make sure the 4 wheel drive is disconected as soon as posible (you may need to revurse up to do this due to transmision wind up). If you have manual free wheeling hubs you can leave them unlocked and have low ratio rear wheel drive. This of course puts a lot more strain on the rear prop and axle, but shouldn't cause damage as long as you feed power in gently (somthing you'll be doing as neddy and neddy are hung on back anyway I would guess).
Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
Don't use 4WD on tarmac!
Don’t forget that Fourtraks don’t have a centre differential – you cannot use 4WD with the front hubs engaged on tarmac, without “winding up” the transmission. Should only use 4WD on slippery surfaces such as gravel, grass, snow etc.

And for the 3rd time ill just put dont use 4wd on tarmac...lol, well you can to get out of trouble.
