Daihatsu 4trak Rust

Forum:

I've been busy with a hammer gently knocking away at my 4trak (92 - fieldman - p75) this evening and discovered what I'd suspected for quite a while. Along with rust around the wheel arches once i'd taken off those plastic things, fair amount around the bottom of the cab, from behind front door all along to rear wheel arch. When I say fair amount, I meant it is rotten and now more like large holes in places.

Question being, is it worth my while to try and get this repaired - thinking welding - or will this be classed as an MOT failure in any place, in which case I should get shut and look for a replacement? Would be a shame to say goodbye, the engine is tip top and goes like a dream. However I don't wish to enter into a false economy.

I do have some photos of the rust if anyone is especially keen on helping me I can email them to you.

With thanks

David

welcome to fourtrak

welcome to fourtrak ownership, good strong motors, rusty body work, needs to be solid round body mounts and seat belt fastenings to be mainly safe and no sharp edges to pass mot so some places can be patched with ease, if you like the motor, repair, cos you wont find a newer type of vehicle thats as reliable.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

welcome to fourtrak

Thanks for your response, clearly you have a vested interest. Not that I'm considering changing the vehicle for another type of vehicle, merely another fourtrak rather than throwing good money after bad. Anyone else?
