Fourtrak bonnet catch...

Forum:

Hi all,

I'm back with another problem! (ignoring the new rad I need to fit tomorrow....)

My Fourtrak's bonnet catch won't hold the bonnet shut. Is there an easy fix or is it just simpler to get a new latch? If so what do they cost and where from? Or does anyone have a working one they no longer need. Unfortunately I need it sorted by the weekend as I have a long trip to make and don't fancy the bonnet flying open if the safety catch doesnt hold.

As always, any help is most appreciated!

They are a simple mechanism,

They are a simple mechanism, and consist of a mushroom shaped metal stud which is adjustable. This forces a spring loaded bar back when closing, and when down far enough the spring pushes the bar over the flange of the mushroom shaped dome.

Check the mechanism, ensure the spring and catch actually work, if they do, fine.

Check the dome, it screws and unscrews for adjustment, adjust it.

Check also for siezing, they often seize up through lack of lubrication, free and cover with grease.
