Quiet Serpentine belt!

Forum:

Well my belt lube came yesterday, and i spayed some on, seemed OK, nothing really happened. Then today, the belt is even louder and dry sounding.

Rubbish stuff, It actually smells just like Mr Sheen furniture polish.

So in my frustration, got the WD40 out.

As expected it instantly when quiet.

But as many will know, WD40 is not really very good for belts, the effects do not last more than a few days at best.

But i think i have found a ideal product.

Turtle wax platinum tyre gel!

It's a greasy gel for your tyre sidwalls or anything rubber (i use it underbonnet a lot on hoses)

One of the best products i have used.

It stays greasy for weeks, plus it make rubber a bit more supple.

I used my finger (ENGINE OFF!) to rub some on the serpentine inside and outside of belt. Then started engine for a brief moment. And repeated few times to ensure i got the whole belt length covered.

Belt is whisper quiet now, quick test up road and no slip, and looks nice and black!

Fingers crossed it lasts well. Judging by the underbonnet hoses etc it does not dry out with heat.

just wait till it rains and

just wait till it rains and slips like buggery lol, nah might/might not.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Will see how it goes!,

I have read on the internet that Silicone Dielectric grease works very well on serpentine belts.

The I had the thought of racing GRIP tyre softener! got some of that.

Will resist doing anything else for now
