Heads up for those YRV/Sirion Owners who have sill covers.......

Forum:

Hello,

Haven't posted for a while since spending a tonne of time on the YRV. Anyways to cut a long story short; It was M.O.T time again last week, and wanted to make sure the Yellow Peril Smile was ready. Especially after Daihatsu Dave's pointer back at April's meet up about rust on the sills. Well it has happened, I now have an issue at the rear (At least) where the metal has corroded and you can push it with your finger to get a hole Sad

Should have listened to Tony's advice, but time is/was a factor Wink

Luckily I managed to pass the M.O.T thanks to the garage I have it serviced with. But don't fear I the car booked in to get it sorted and under waxed at the same time. This thing ain't beating me, especially the time and money I have put into the Modding etc.. Smile
Just thought I'd give other owners a heads up, so they too can catch this early Wink

Same story with all

Same story with all Daihatsu's!

Hence why there were 850 GTti sold in the Uk from 1987-1993, now there are only 25 currently MOT'd and taxed, with 125 on SORN.

Once they start to go you got a battle to stop it spreading.

Keep regular checks on the entire underside, also the inner arches and sills free from mud and clean at all times, avoid driving on salted winter roads whenever possible!

Really you are best off undersealing yourself to ensure a proper job, only when the car is perfectly dry underneath. Hammerite underseal with added Waxoyl is a fine product and a decent sized 2 litre tin is cheap (the brush-on is the one to use not the aerosol)
Dinitrol 3125 spray cavity wax is also worth spraying inside sills and other box sections.
