help!

hi guys, we took out the old gearbox on my daihatsu NA 2.8 92 reg today to find not only the gearmesh goosed but the thrust bearing, and the shaft completely knackered! i was suprised it lasted so long....

anyway that aside, on the new box we had noticed that the dreaded bolt on the left hand side had been undone!!! however we have attached a drill to the shaft that goes to the clutch and have gone through all the gears and its all fine... is it fith gear that goes when you pull out this * faux drain lookalike plug*? would apriciate any advice as im back onto the motor tommorow and dont want to fix the new box on until im 100% sure its all ok,

we tried to take the top off of the old box to see how this rod to 5th gear works but couldnt get it off?? is there a secret way of getting it off or is it just bolted on obviously??

never done it fortunately so...i dunno but I always was under impression its for the reverse gear, im sure the top comes off one way or another, I have got the manual which I can email to u.

cheers i have the manual already from previouse owners, have looked and the manual says exactly what we have done but the casing just does NOT seem to wanna budge! the swine! ill try it in reverse aswell again, if it turns ok this means that it is fine?

were all finnished up, what a slog, next time we will have learned so much, we were up till 12.00 last night fitting the transfer box back on! just wouldnt go on! all sorted now though smooth as anything, we had to use gasket sealent stuff though in the end.

youll ache well tomorrow lol, transfer awkward?? pehaps you didnt have the spline lined up, just turn the output flange, they tend to slip on easy.

yeah, proper aching today! fell down the stairs this morning cause my hips were still weak! the transfer box was a bugger because of the mesh lining up you are right, we puffed and panted but managed to manhandle the thing in place by hand.... dont want to do that again in a while! not a peep of oil too whih is good!
