Forum:
Hi,i have recently bought a k reg sportrack, has been running lovely until recently the tickover was lumpy at around 750rpm,we increased it to 850rpm but after driving it it went up to 1200rpm on its own accord,we brought it back down to 850rpm but unable to adjust it any lower, the screw is completely wound to its full adjustment,is this right?
Air filter
Is the air filter clogged or the choke sticking?
1. Check the air filter.
2. Redex or have a look at the choke.
If the fuel consumption has increased then the problem is likely to be as above.
erratic tickover
If the tickover goes down I would think of a blocked jet or maybe air filter problem. However if the tickover goes up its more likely to be a small amount of air leaking into the engines inlet manifold somewhere, a small rubber pipe could well be split or maybe the brake servo pipe could be leaking. I would try taking each pipe off one by one and blanking the hole into the manifold off with something. When the engine dies because the tickover is too slow .... you have found your leak. Sometimes spraying wd40 around will find the leak , or sometimes you can hear it sucking.
